The Munster Open was held on Saturday the 27th of October in the University of Limerick. Mr. Will Power was the organizer and all credit to him for running another great competition.

Aughrim :
Mrs. Doreen Byrne was a particular favorite on the day with her demonstration of power breaking; she broke 3 inches of heavy timber with a perfectly executed back-turning kick.

Ms. Lydia King (aged 10) from Rolestown won first place in continuous sparring and first place in breaking on the day. Maurice Fagan won third place for sparring and second place in breaking with an impressive display of breaking 3inches with his right elbow then his left elbow.

Rolestown Open Day

The Annual Rolestown School Open day was held on the 10 th of June and even though the Black Belt testing was the day before, we still had the full presence of all the individuals who had tested. It was a day of glorious sunshine and we had our tent and banners erected. I held a demonstration of the four fighting zones and we had the Panthers perform some simple techniques. We also broke some timber, which always pleases the crowd.

Master John Darcy, Master Peter Byrne, and Mr John Kirkwood (AIMAA Scotland 5 th Degree) were on the main examining panel. The standard was extremely high again this year and particularly impressive were the breaking and sparring sections.

Rolestown trip to Scotland

Rolestown AIMAA visited Mr John Kirkwood and the students of AIMAA Scotland on the 26 th of May and spent two days training in Glasgow and two days visiting the sights of Edinburgh . We were lucky to visit as Mr John Kirkwood was teaching a “Squad Session” style class and we learnt many new ways of stretching and fighting. We were also lucky to be in the grounds of Edinburgh Castle as they were preparing for the Trooping of the Guard in August and we managed to hear the famous bag-pipes in practice. Many thanks to Mr Kirkwood for all his hospitality and best wished to him for his coming testing for Master Degree in November.
